The Devil And The Dark Waters
East Indies, 1634. Samuel Pips, the world's greatest poacher, is transported from Batavia to Amsterdam, where he faces execution for a crime he may or may not have committed. Traveling with him is his faithful bodyguard Arend Hayes, who is determined to prove his friend's innocence.
On the same ship are Sarah Vissel, a noblewoman with a secret, and her husband, the governor-general of Batavia.
Before the ship sails well, a storm of paradoxical and very ominous events begins. A dead leper lurks on the decks. Strange symbols appear on the sails. Animals are slaughtered. And an eerie voice promises three unholy miracles. An improbable hunt, an improbable theft and an improbable murder. Is it possible that a demon named gero-tom is responsible for all this?
With Samuel shackled in the dungeon, only Arendt and Sarah can provide the solution.
